The 28-hectare city park (Stadtpark), with the remains of riverside woodland and affectionately called “Waldchen” (little forest) by the people of Worms, is in the southern part of the city. It has a large playground, numerous paths for walking and cycling, and in summer there is a shady beer garden. This is where you will also find the zoo and the animal shelter.
To the south of Hammelsdamm is the recreation area Bürgerweide with Worms Zoo and the southern Rhine meadows. The Bürgerweide measures about 70 hectares and serves as a natural flood zone of the Rhine.
To the east along Hammelsdamm is the harbour (Floßhafen, literally “raft harbour”) and the Rhine promenade. A path running north along the Rhine from the Rhine meadows will also take you to the Rhine promenade.
