Whether Christmas market, live music played from the towers, concerts during Advent and Christmas church services, or the many events in different parts of the city or provided by retailers: during Advent, the Nibelung City of Worms offers its visitors many special features as part of “Nibelung Christmas”.
Nibelung Christmas is an annual event from the end of November until 23rd December.
The City of Worms invites visitors from near and far to discover Nibelung Christmas during Advent. With a great deal of voluntary support by many participants, cultural treasures from Worms and the Nibelung saga combine to produce a contemplative atmosphere at Christmas time. The Christmas market from Obermarkt to Römischer Kaiser offers culinary delights, handcrafted goods, unusual events as well as mulled wine provided by wine growers.
The fact that the people of Worms identify with their Christmas market is visible in a number of ways: as well as fairground rides for young visitors, there are culinary delights – from sweet delicacies via spicy dishes to Christmas specialities. Some of the mulled wine in this wine-growing city is, of course, from local wine growers. One popular meeting point, for example, is the stall of “Kloose Helmut”. Local associations, institutions and private individuals take it in turns at three of the stalls to offer their products on one or more days. Residents of the Nibelung city are also involved in the varied programme of events on the stage on Obermarkt during Advent. Retailers in Worms add to the mixture of activities in the city centre with events outside and inside their shops. The traditional highlight of Nibelung Christmas is when people sing to the accompaniment of live music played from the towers on the last Sunday in Advent.
This great variety of events is what makes Nibelung Christmas so unique.
