Visiting the SchUM cities Worms, Speyer & Mainz

Get to know the unique SchUM sites of Speyer, Worms and Mainz, which have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since July 2021!

The SchUM sites include unique, exemplary community centres, monuments and cemeteries. They are outstanding testimonies to a living Jewish tradition in this region and beyond. The SchUM sites tell of the association of SchUM communities in the Middle Ages. This is where the cradle of Ashkenazi Judaism stood and where the centuries-old roots reach into a Jewish present and future.

Three exciting guided tours on Jewish history await you. These include a visit to the oldest Jewish cemetery in Europe in Worms and the 12th century Jewish baths in Speyer. The Raschi House in Worms - named after the medieval scholar Raschi of Troyes, who studied in the Worms Teaching House - houses a Jewish museum. In Mainz you will get to know forgotten and new places of Jewish faith.
